The Switch
October 20th, 2007
I’ve made the switch to using linux instead of windows, at least partially. It’s too much of a pain in the ass to make games work on linux, so I’m dual booting for a while. I pretty much got everything setup, and I can read my windows file system from linux now, so I don’t have to switch back and forth. Even right now I’m using some desktop software to write this blog post. It’s not as “robust” as the ones for windows, but it’ll work in a pinch. I’ve downloaded another to try out, and I’m sure there are others out there.
One thing I have to mention, the special effects in ubuntu 7.10 blow the vista aero shit out of the water. If I could hold my camera still enough to make a video I’d do it. In fact, I might try to make one here in a few minutes. I’ll probably have to edit it and upload it from windows lol

Thank you for posting and welcome.
I like your comment about Aero. Whenever I see that “high tech” nonsense with the windows “floating” in space it makes me snicker. But enough of kicking a pathetic loser when he’s down.
I use PCLinuxOS which has gtk-recordMyDesktop in their repository. I’m sure Ubuntu does too. Give it a try. I only tested it once for 1 minute and it created a 10mg file. It recorded at my monitor’s full resolution of 1600×1200. It’s a great way to fool your friends into thinking your computer has gone “mad” when it’s played back a full screen. There may be a setting that allows you to reduce the resolution it records at. Good luck and have fun.
