I Got a Trainer!

June 16th, 2007

Too bad it’s not a hot chick. I’m talking about a bike trainer. It’s for when it’s shitty weather. I can put my back wheel up on it and ride as much as I want. There’s never any wind in my house. I will put some pics further down. Amy was telling me that I should stay in my fat burning zone for 45-60 minutes of each ride (she has a degree in nutrition or something). She and I rode tonight. It’s really tough for me to go that slow. My bike wants to go fast. I’m afraid it will get mad and break if I go to slow.

So here’s my solution: I’d told her earlier in the week that I’d buy her trainer since she’s moving and selling all of her stuff. I got it from her tonight at a fraction of what they cost brand new. They start at $130 and go up from there, and rollers start out at about $150 (they’re more dangerous anyway). I’ve had my old Cannondale hanging on the ceiling since I bought my new bike, so guess where it is now? It’s on the trainer.

Honestly I’d still be riding the Cannondale if it shifted properly (it just feels right). I had to get a new rear cog and I think it has one more gear than my other one did. So that makes it difficult to shift while riding, but not a lot of shifting happens on the trainer. And since I’m just doing it for the exercise and not necessarily to become a better cyclist, although I’m sure it won’t hurt, I’ll shift it to wherever it needs to be for me to get to my heart rate zone and leave it in that gear.

I’m trying to get my fat burn on, and apparently riding at 175bpm for an hour and a half won’t do that. It makes absolutely no sense to me. You’d think that the more work your body did the more fat it would burn, but it’s supposedly not the case. I’m going to try it Amy’s way for a while and see if it makes a difference. Marshall tried it and he sees results weekly. The only thing is, I’ll probably be riding more so I won’t really know if the heart zone has anything to do with it or not. If only I had an evil twin to use as a control group.

Speaking of evil twins, I think I’m going to have to make some sideburns instead of this beard. My hair is looking rather wolverine-ish, and it would be a shame not to take advantage of it. That’s about all I have to say for now, except Happy Father’s Day to all those dads out there. Oh, I saw the third Pirates of the Caribbean this morning. It was aight. I’m not a superfan of the franchise, but it was worth the $4 that I shelled out to see it. AMC has a deal on Saturdays where movies that start before noon are only $4. I’m not sure about the ones that start at noon. You probably have to pay regular price for those.

I’m out. Here are some pics of my new trainer and super old bike, and a picture of what’s possibly the coolest sticker EVER on the back window of my UAV.
