Less Than Thrilled

January 29th, 2006

I am less then thrilled, as you might have guessed from the title. My camera sensor has MANY dust spots. I usually shoot the the aperture pretty close to wide open so it’s not usually an issue, but at f14 and smaller it fuckin blows. I made the journey to Clinton this weekend to visit Kristi.

I made her asked her very politely to take me to the windmills to take some pictures (Weatherford has a “wind energy” center).

I spent about 20 or so minutes taking various photographs of the windmills. It was about 3pm and I wanted to slow down the shutter to blur the spinning blades, you know, show some motion. So I put on my polarizer and set my aperture on its smallest setting. I’d have taken quite a few very good pictures if it wasn’t for one thing… Dust.

I’ve never attempted to clean my sensor because it was never that much of a problem. It costs $50 (I think) plus shipping to and from Canon to send it in and have them do it, and fuck a bunch of that, so I’ve just been working around it. I’d do it now, but I am 90% sure I’m ordering a new camera with part of my tax return (depending on how much I get back). I think i deserve it.

So here are some pictures that I took yesterday. You’ll easily notice the dust spots in a lot of them.

On top of that, my miter saw isn’t calibrated correclty. I was working on the tetris blocks earlier and the cuts are not precise enough. I set the saw back to 0 degrees and it’s still cutting at a bit of a slant. One side of each piece of wood is 1/32 of an inch longer than the other side (width wise). I don’t know if the blade is flexing a little or what. but I’m seriously going to have to figure that one out because it’s pissing me off. I really want to do this, and these prototypes are unacceptable. Fuck it.

So other than that and sensor dust I had a great weekend. Kristi, Mandy, and I met the bug and tory at Eischen’s Chicken Shack (or whatever it’s called) for dinner last night. It was an hour and a half wait for chickens, so we had to settle for BBQ beef sandwiches, nachos, and okra. I know, quite a combination. There’s no hostess, you see someone get up and you run like hell to get to the table before anyone else does. Luckily nobody tried to steal our table because it would have been ON.

Hard to believe such a small dog could fuck up a couch cushion like that huh?

Just kidding. Seamus is responsible for the destruction below. There’s a reason why he doesn’t enjoy the privelege of staying in the house all the time, or having something soft to lie down on, for that matter.

Ok, that’s enough. It’s time for bed and stuff. I’m wearing slacks to work tomorrow so I have to get up on time. Good night.

Mom’s black lab did that to the leather couch in the den. Ouch.

Dude, I’m disappointed in you. That’s a small fence to jump. You should have gotten underneth them for a few shots or at least climbed up the ladder. There are more windmills down near lake Lawtonka and the wildlife refuge. Pardon the grammer and spelling errors.
    Thanks,
    P

My backyard view in Abilene is a bunch of those windmills on top of a “mountain”. I think they’re kind of pretty.

Did you see any dead birds around the ‘mills? In California those type of windmills tend to kill a good number of migrating birds….
    FYI
