Weekly Blog

January 25th, 2006

Here’s a blog that covers the last 6 or 7 days.

Friday when I checked the mail I had something from OVAC. My first thought was “why the hell are they sending me stuff? I’m not even a member.” So I open the envelope and it’s a commission check. Apparently someone bought one of my photos at the Momentum show. I had to go pick up the other on Saturday. Surprisingly “Slide” sold and the black guy did not. That’s cool though. (today) After making a copy to frame and put on the wall I deposited the check in my savings account and then promptly ordered a 2gb compact flash card from Newegg.

Wait, backup. I have to Tarantino / Fight Club it for a minute. Dad had 2 stents put in Thursday. It guess they finally got the job done, because he seems to be doing pretty well.

I forgot what else I was going to blog about, so I’ll get right to the most exciting thing.

On DIGG the other day I saw a link to shelves made in the shape of pieces from the game Tetris. Each piece was free standing, and you can stack them however you like. Pretty cool huh? The pricetag was NOT pretty cool, at $350 per piece. So I got to thinking, I have a brand new miter saw, I can make my own out of 1×4s (and paint the the correct colors). I started the experiment tonight.

I went to Chick Fila for dinner (imagine that), and then cut all the wood for the first piece in about half an hour. I just happened to have some 1×4s over in the corner. I still have to figure out how I’m going to attach them. I think I’ll get some wood glue and do it that way, or maybe I’ll screw the lot of them. This is really just a test anyway. I will make more pieces until all the wood is gone. Of course I lined up all the pieces and took pictures, so I won’t bore you with anymore details. Here are the pictures (my foot sneaked into one of the pictures for reference).

I did make one miscalculation. I basically divided the pieces into 6″x6″ squares when I drew them, so I cut all the 1 unit pieces 6″ long and the 3 unit piece for this one was 18″ long. So the total width should have been 18″, but I forgot to add 1/2″ on the pieces for the inside corners, so the total width ended up being 17″. That might not make sense, but I know what I need to do to fix it. Recognize, bitches!
